This is the first version of Gerhart's web site on structural analysis of beta-propeller proteins, as exemplified by tachylectin-2 and a relative, tachylectin-5A.
General Design:

A   Molecular Imaging
1.) Introductory text on (invertebrate) lectins and cognate carbohydrates, bringing up the main topics of the underlying EMBO paper (tachylectin-2) and PNAS paper (tachylectin-5A), respectively.
2.) Description of the tachylectin-2 structure as a unique propeller structure.
3.) Presentation of tachylectin-2 still images generated with rasmol.
4.) Presentation of structural descriptions and definitions of tachylectin-2 generated from    the  SCOP and CATH databases.
5.) Description and definitions of other propeller proteins with different symmetries.
6.) Presentation of images and models of the tachylectin-2 molecule in complex with GlucNAc.
7.) Presentation of images and models of the tachylectin-5A molecule in complex with carbohydrate ligand.
8.) Discussion of structure-function relationship of distinct propeller elements in ligand recognition.

B Technical Section on Tachylectin Crystallography
1.) Materials and Methods section from the EMBO paper; explanation of the crystallization strategy and the steps of data analysis taken.
2.) Technical comments from the crystallography segments of deposited tachylectin files.
3.) Explanation of some advanced features used in the tachylectin-2 structural analysis, such as the Wilson plot (correction diagram for temperature-dependent atomic vibrations) and Matthews coefficient (molar hydratization of protein in crystallized form).
