NOTE: The originally posted final incorrectly referred to the endothelin 3 protein as a receptor. In fact, the questions are about the endothelin peptide hormone.

The following questions are about the human endothelin 3 protein

  1. List at least three GenBank Accession numbers for it's mRNAs?
  2. Which human chromosome is this protein located on?
  3. What is its LocusID?
  4. What is its UniGene #'s?
  5. Which diseases are associated with this protein?
  6. Using more than one information source, identify the protein family this protein belongs to. What information sources have you used and what family does the protein belong to according to them?
  7. There are no known structures for this protein, however there is a human endothelin 1 structure. In this section, try and find out more about the relationship between the endothelin 1 and 3 sequences available in SwissProt:
    1. after how many iterations does the PSI-Blast query converge?
    2. submit a multiple sequence alignment for the 21 resulting endothelin 1 & 3 sequences
    3. answer 7a for just the endothelin domain in the endothelin 3 protein sequence. Describe your strategy.
